A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Execute clean, directional first touches that move the ball 2-3 yards into space between the cones.
Setup
Create a skinny diamond 20 yards long and 5 yards wide. Players A and B start at one end; Player C starts at the opposite end.
Drill Instructions
1. Player A hits a long pass to Player C then sprints toward the middle. 2. Player C passes back; A traps and returns it immediately. 3. Player A shifts right, receives from C, and uses a positive inside-left touch to cushion the ball between the middle cones. 4. Return to C, repeat on the left side with a positive inside-right touch and return to C to complete the drill. 5. Player B now rotates in with Player C while A rests at the far end.
Coach Tip
Check your shoulder before you receive the ball to simulate scanning for defenders.
Avoid
Taking a stationary touch that stops the ball dead in its tracks.
