Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Attacker scores by successfully dribbling through a side gate; Defender scores by winning the ball and crossing the opposite end line.
Setup
Create a 5x10 yard grid with two small 'gates' on the side lines near the attacker's end. Attacker starts at one end, defender at the other.
Drill Instructions
1. Defender passes the ball across the grid to the attacker. 2. As soon as the ball moves, the defender rushes to close space. 3. The attacker must use skill moves and changes of direction to dribble through either of the two side gates. 4. If the defender wins the ball, they look to dribble out the attacker's end line to counter.
Coach Tip
Use a 'feint' or fake to one gate to off-balance the defender, then explode through the opposite gate.
Avoid
Standing flat-footed or waiting for the defender to reach you—attack the space immediately.
