A short spoken walk-through of this drill.

Goal
Score in the 1v1, then successfully prevent a goal in the 2v2 by transitioning quickly.
Setup
Place two goals 30 yards apart and make a grid 15 yards wide between them. You can use small goals or cones as an alternative. Mark two cones on the sideline as sprint points. Players divide into two teams at opposite ends.
Drill Instructions
1. Two players sprint around a center cone; the coach plays a ball into the middle for a 1v1 battle to the far goal. 2. Immediately after a goal or the ball goes out, two new attackers enter from the goal line. 3. The original 1v1 players must instantly transition to become a defensive pair to stop the new attackers trying to score on the opposite goal.
Coach Tip
React the second the ball is dead—don't admire your shot or dwell on the miss!
Avoid
Standing still after the 1v1 phase while the new attackers enter the field.
Adjust on the fly
Make it easier
Give the 1v1 players 3 seconds of rest before the new attackers are released.
Make it harder
Have a time limit to take a shot on the 1v1 and/or the 2v2 to increase intensity.
