A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Successfully transition the ball from the middle to the wide channel and score from the resulting cross or pass.
Setup
Create a 30x40 yard central grid with two 5-yard wide channels on each sideline. Place a goal at each end. Assign two neutral wingers to stay in the channels.
Drill Instructions
1. Play a 3v3 or 4v4 scrimmage in the center grid. 2. To score, the central team must first pass to a neutral winger in a side channel. 3. Wingers stay in their channels and may not be tackled. 4. Once the winger receives, they look to cross or pass back into the grid for a finishing run to goal.
Coach Tip
Encourage players to 'lock' the defender in the middle before quickly pinging it wide to the free winger.
Avoid
Avoid central players standing still; they must make explosive runs into the box once the ball goes wide.
