A short spoken walk-through of this drill.

Goal
Develop the 'check-shoulder' habit so it becomes automatic during games.
Setup
Place two cones 10 yards apart. Player A stands at one cone, Player B (or a wall) at the other.
Drill Instructions
1. Pass the ball to your partner or the wall. 2. As the ball is traveling back to you, turn your head to look over your left or right shoulder. 3. Look back at the ball just in time to receive it with a clean first touch. 4. Repeat, alternating the side you scan each time.
Coach Tip
Don't just turn your head; try to actually identify something behind you, like the color of a cone or a number on a jersey.
Avoid
Scanning too early or too late; the 'check' must happen while the ball is in motion toward you.
