Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
The goal is to maintain a fluid two-touch rhythm where the first touch creates a clear passing lane outside the cone.
Setup
Place 2 cones to make a small gate. Have your partner do the same 5–8 yards away. Partners stand behind their respective gates.
Drill Instructions
1. Partner A passes the ball firmly through the opposite gate. 2. Partner B uses their first touch to move the ball outside of their gate. 3. Partner B then takes a second touch to pass the ball back through the gate to the first partner. 4. Switch the type of touch every 60 seconds (Outside foot push, Inside foot cut, or Sole roll).
Coach Tip
Open your hips as the ball approaches so your first touch naturally leads you in the direction you want to go.
Avoid
Avoid taking the touch too heavy or directly into the cone; keep the ball within 'playing distance'.
