Y-Passing - The Third Man Release
5-10 min Group 1 soccer ball, 4 cones, spare balls

Listen to your Coach
Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Execute the sequence with high ball speed and perfectly timed runs into space.
Setup
Set 4 cones in a 'Y' shape. One cone at the base, one at the junction (10 yards up), and two 'arms' (10 yards wide/up from the junction).
Drill Instructions
1. Base player passes to the Junction player. 2. Junction player drops a one-touch pass back to the Base. 3. Base plays a long diagonal to one Arm player. 4. The opposite Arm player sprints into the central space toward the base to receive a through-ball from the first Arm player.
Coach Tip
Communication is key; the player making the run should call for the ball the moment the diagonal pass is made.
Avoid
Standing still after passing; every player must follow their pass to the next station.
Adjust on the fly
Make it easier
Allow two touches for every player to focus on accuracy over speed.
Make it harder
All passes must be one-touch and add a defender to shadow the junction player.
