A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Complete the course with tight turns, keeping the ball within one step of your feet at all times.
Setup
Place cones in a zig-zag pattern 5 yards apart at 45-degree angles, creating a corridor roughly 15-20 yards long.
Drill Instructions
1. Start at the first cone and dribble toward the next cone at a slight sprint. 2. As you reach the cone, use the inside of your foot to 'chop' the ball across your body toward the next target. 3. Use your right foot when cutting left, and your left foot when cutting right. 4. Accelerate immediately after the chop.
Coach Tip
Get your plant foot slightly ahead of the ball before the chop to create the best angle for the turn.
Avoid
Avoid just 'rolling' the ball around the cone; it needs to be a sharp, snappy chop to change direction instantly.
