Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Attackers aim to move the ball quickly to score before the second defender recovers. Defenders aim to stall the play or win the ball.
Setup
Create a 20x20 yard grid with a large goal at one end and two mini goals at the other. Three attackers start on cones 10 yards apart at the top. Two defenders start 5 yards in front.
Drill Instructions
1. A defender passes the ball to any of the three attackers to start the play. 2. The passing defender must sprint around the outside of the starting cones before recovery-defending. 3. The three attackers must all touch the ball at least once before they are allowed to shoot. 4. The lone defender inside must delay the attack until their partner returns. 5. If defenders win the ball, they score in the mini goals.
Coach Tip
Encourage the lone defender to 'show' the attacker outside and use body language to slow the play down without committing too early.
Avoid
Attackers standing still while waiting for their mandatory touch; everyone must move into supporting lanes.
