A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
The attacking team should use the +2 advantage to find an open man and score. The defending team aims to stay compact despite being outnumbered.
Setup
Create a rectangular pitch with a goal at each end. Split the group into two even teams and assign two players as 'Neutrals' wearing a distinct color.
Drill Instructions
1. Play a standard scrimmage, but the two Neutral players always play for the team currently in possession. 2. Neutrals stay centrally or on the wings to provide constant support. 3. If the defending team wins the ball, the Neutrals immediately switch to help them.
Coach Tip
Encourage the Neutrals to constantly move into the 'pockets' of space between defenders.
Avoid
Neutral players standing still; they must be the most active players on the pitch to provide options.
