Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Player B must successfully use their first touch to 'escape' the pressing defender and get a strike on target.
Setup
Place 2 cones 3 yards apart as a starting gate. Place 2 more cones 5 yards away as a receiving gate. A goal should be 10-15 yards behind the receiving gate.
Drill Instructions
1. Player A passes firmly from the starting gate to Player B at the receiving gate. 2. Immediately after passing, Player A sprints to pressure the outside of one of Player B's cones. 3. Player B must take a first touch away from the pressure, round the opposite cone, and shoot on goal before being caught.
Coach Tip
Keep your eyes up! Scan the defender move so you can touch the ball into the open space they've just left.
Avoid
Avoid taking the first touch straight forward or standing flat-footed while waiting for the pass.
