A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Successfully return the ball to the partner's hands without it touching the ground and without exceeding the called touch count.
Setup
Set up a 5x5 yard square using 4 cones. Two players stand inside the square facing each other about 3 yards apart.
Drill Instructions
1. Player A tosses the ball underhand toward Player B. 2. As the ball is in the air, Player A shouts a number from 1 to 3. 3. Player B must control the ball using exactly that number of touches (e.g., thigh-foot-foot) before volleying it back into Player A's hands. 4. Switch roles every 2 minutes.
Coach Tip
Keep your knees bent and stay on your toes so you can adjust your body quickly to the ball's flight.
Avoid
Standing flat-footed or waiting for the ball to come to you; move your feet to meet it.
