A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
The Shadow aims to stay within one yard of the Leader at all times while maintaining perfect ball control.
Setup
Create a 10x10 yard square using 4 cones. Partners stand facing each other inside the square, both with a ball at their feet.
Drill Instructions
1. Designate one player as the 'Leader' and the other as the 'Shadow'. 2. The Leader dribbles freely within the square, changing direction and speed constantly. 3. The Shadow must mimic every move the Leader makes, staying as close as possible. 4. Switch roles after 60 seconds.
Coach Tip
Keep your knees bent and take 'check-mark' touches—small, quick touches that allow for instant changes of direction.
Avoid
Avoid taking large touches that send the ball too far away, making it impossible to react to the Leader's sudden turns.
