A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
The attacking trio must use the numerical advantage and the overlap to create a clear shot on goal within 10 seconds.
Setup
Create an attacking zone starting 30 yards out. Place 3 attackers at the top and 2 defenders plus a goalkeeper near the goal.
Drill Instructions
1. The middle attacker starts with the ball. 2. They pass to a wide player and immediately sprint around the outside of that player (overlapping). 3. The wide player can either use the runner as a decoy or pass the ball into their path. 4. Players play live until a goal is scored or the ball goes out.
Coach Tip
Time your run! Wait for the wide player to take their first touch before sprinting past them to stay onside and relevant.
Avoid
Avoid the middle player passing and then watching the play; they must move immediately to create the overload.
