Coach Carter
A short spoken walk-through of this drill.
Goal
Execute the combination with high speed and score with a clinical one-touch finish inside the box.
Setup
Set three cones in a triangle at the top of the penalty area. Station A is furthest back, Station B and C are level, closer to the goal.
Drill Instructions
1. Player A passes to Player B. 2. Player B plays a lateral pass to Player C then sprints toward the goal. 3. Player C plays a first-time through ball into the path of Player B. 4. Player B finishes with a one-touch shot. 5. Rotate: A to C, C to B, B to A.
Coach Tip
Focus on the weight of the final pass; it must lead the runner so they don't have to slow down.
Avoid
Avoid taking a 'prep touch' before the shot; trust your technique to finish first-time.
Adjust on the fly
Make it easier
Allow Player C and the finisher (Player B) two touches each to control the ball before passing/shooting.
Make it harder
Add a passive defender near the edge of the box to pressure the passing lanes and the runner.
